What Talented’s paid-media searches actually required
We reviewed the seven paid-media job profiles in Talented’s hiring system as of September 2026. Every role included campaign management and creative, copy, or hook judgment. Six of seven included analytics, reporting, tracking, or attribution. Five included lead-generation work. Two explicitly required Google Ads or PPC experience.
That is a small first-party sample, not a labor-market census. It does show why “media buyer” is too broad to use as the hiring scorecard: the platform, funnel, account load, and downstream revenue problem change the job.
Meta, Google, or multi-channel?
Hire around the system the person must improve, not the broadest list of platforms you can fit into a job description.
| Role shape | Best fit | Evidence to inspect |
|---|---|---|
| Meta-focused media buyer | Paid social is the primary acquisition channel and creative fatigue, offer testing, or lead quality drives the next decision | Recent creative tests, fatigue diagnosis, audience and offer decisions, tracking checks, and what changed after sales feedback |
| Google-focused media buyer | Search intent, query quality, bidding, feed structure, or conversion tracking is the central constraint | Search-term decisions, negatives, bidding logic, conversion setup, landing-page diagnosis, and qualified-lead or revenue reconciliation |
| Multi-channel media buyer | The role genuinely has enough volume across channels and needs one person to allocate attention and budget between them | Depth on each active platform plus a clear method for comparing marginal performance without blending incompatible metrics |
A strong Meta operator does not automatically become a strong Google operator. If one channel carries most of the spend, hire for depth there and treat the second platform as a separate capability to verify.
The business model changes the job
| Environment | The media buyer must understand | A useful work sample |
|---|---|---|
| Lead generation or high-ticket sales | Qualified leads, booked calls, show rate, speed-to-lead, sales feedback, CRM stages, and attribution gaps | Diagnose why platform CPL looks healthy while qualified opportunities or sales fall |
| Ecommerce or DTC | Creative velocity, offer and landing-page fit, merchandising, margin, repeat purchase behavior, and blended economics | Review a performance change and separate creative, offer, audience, site, and measurement causes |
| Agency or multi-account team | Account organization, launch cadence, prioritization, reporting, client communication, and when to escalate | Triage several accounts, choose the first actions, and explain what can wait |
What “good” looks like before the interview
- Uses a real account, timeframe, metric movement, action, and result when describing prior work
- Separates ad-platform issues from offer, landing-page, sales, CRM, qualification, and follow-up issues
- Prioritizes the first checks instead of reciting a generic optimization list
- Explains the recommendation and the evidence that would change it
- Can work as a dedicated hire rather than treating the role as another account in a freelance roster
Two real placement patterns
For an agency where one lead buyer was carrying more than 400 campaigns, Talented placed a paid-media specialist with more than six years of experience and a record of managing 12 or more client accounts. The fit was about absorbing daily execution so the lead buyer could return to supervision and channel development.
For a team that had paused ads because weak fulfillment made additional spend risky, the selected buyer completed two recorded work samples and a practical assessment. The evidence included reconciling ad-platform, CRM, and sales data; diagnosing lead quality and speed-to-lead; and making clear keep, cut, and scale decisions.
These are examples of role fit, not promises of ROAS or a universal hiring outcome. The useful pattern is that each evaluation mirrored the problem the hire would inherit.
How Talented hires media buyers
- Identify the constraint
- Define the platform, funnel, account load, and decisions the role must carry
- Use role-specific video evidence and a mock scenario before the final paid assessment
- Have finalists audit, prioritize, and defend their reasoning on work that resembles the role
- Recruit internationally and present a shortlist of people who have already shown relevant proof
Pay when you hire. One-time placement fee. 90-day replacement if not the right fit.
Who this is for / not for
For: founder-led ecommerce, DTC, lead-generation, and agency teams that need a dedicated buyer with verified platform and funnel judgment.
Not for: one-off campaign freelancers, or teams that only need an EOR payroll wrapper with no recruiting.
vs marketplaces and LatAm media-buyer platforms
Marketplaces optimize for profiles and hourly gigs. Many LatAm platforms optimize for speed-to-match. Proof-first placement optimizes for evidence before your interview time.
FAQ
Do you only do Meta?
No. Meta is common in Talented’s paid-media searches, but the role follows the constraint. Google or multi-channel experience should be required and tested when those platforms are material to the job.
Should one media buyer handle both Meta and Google Ads?
Sometimes, but do not assume skill transfers between platforms. A multi-channel role makes sense when the workload is realistic and the candidate can show depth in each active channel. When one platform carries most of the spend, prioritize depth there.
What should I ask a media buyer in an interview?
Ask for a recent performance change, the signals they checked, the order of their diagnosis, the action they took, and the result. Then test whether they can separate platform performance from landing-page, CRM, sales, and follow-up problems.
Will they work my hours?
Placed as your dedicated hire; timezone fit is part of the match.
What if it fails?
90-day replacement.
